What is Amigurumi? I hear you ask. Here is the definition from Wikipedia:
"Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word is a compound of the Japanese words 編み ami, meaning "crocheted or knitted", and 包み kurumi, literally "wrapping", as in 縫い包み nuigurumi " stuffed doll". Amigurumi vary in size and there are no restrictions about size or look."
Why did I (Helen)start making the wee creatures?
I saw a photo on Facebook of a teeny tiny dragon and thought, "That is so cute!" Needless to say, it is the only one I haven't made as it's only about 2" long, uses a single strand of embroidery thread and a crochet hook smaller than my tapestry needle! My fingers are just not nimble enough to cope.
I began by using patterns written by other, more skilled, people and their names appear where appropriate. I now design & write my own patterns... The ones with a red outline around the photo are my designs, the ones with the blue outline are other people's and the ones with the dotted blue outline are my adaptations of other people's.
The first one I made was sold very quickly - a pig called Perky, followed by a request to make Nessie, also sold. However, I made another Nessie... and another pig! Most of the names are ones I've come up with but a few are courtesy of a friend.
They range in size from around 3" tall (Winky Wonky Gonk) to around 10" tall (Rod) and in price from £5 to £20 or so, depending on size and/or complexity. If you need one posted out, then I'm afraid I need to charge postage (the actual price to post at the time of order).
We no longer have an online shop. Please contact us if you want to buy anything, or have something made to order (which we’re happy to do!). All the creatures are small enough to fit in a small parcel. None of them are particularly heavy so ordering two (or more) at the same time would most likely be the same postage cost.
If you have any other questions about them, please ask!
Anyway - here are the results (in no particular order):
